Whether you’re a new subscriber or longtime reader, you’ve probably heard me talk about the importance of keeping Prohibitchin’ free for readers. For as much as I believe in diversity, equity, and inclusion, they don’t mean much if they’re not accessible to the masses, and making sure it doesn’t cost money to read this newsletter has been a cornerstone since re-launching it on Substack in January 2021.
But balancing the value these features bring alongside the cost of creating it has only been possible thanks to ongoing sponsorships. Over the past two years, sponsors such as Rev Nat’s Hard Cider, Hopsbauer, and Stout Collective have ensured Prohibitchin’s survival, and as we come into 2024, I’m looking for sponsor partners in order to be able to keep publishing this award-winning newsletter every month.
In the past, sponsors have stepped up and stuck with me because they believe in the people appearing every month in Prohibitchin’ and their unique, important stories. People like Bex Pezzullo, a queer cider maker in California working to build a safe and supportive community while also building a cider brand. Laura Garcia, called “the best brewer in Baja California”. Breeze Galindo, brewer and board member for the Michael James Jackson Foundation for Brewing & Distilling, with the goal of “funding technical education and career advancement for Black, Indigenous, and people of color in the brewing and distilling industries.” Casey O’Neill, the “Mother of Truly.” Vivianne Kennedy, an “out and proud trans woman” working to reinvent the wine space in Portland, Oregon, and beyond.
Sponsorships have ranged from $200 to $500 a month, and there are no contracts or requirements—simply a handshake agreement to amplify voices working in beverage alcohol from every corner of the globe every month. Sponsorship money goes towards things like a transcription service subscription for interviews, recording equipment like microphones and headphones, awards submissions, and the time it takes to research, interview, write, and publish the newsletter each month.
As you and your company look ahead to 2024, if there’s a will or a way to invest in independent journalism like Prohibitchin’, please reach out with interest or questions. Any amount for any timeframe will help ensure this newsletter remains free for readers, which is a top priority.
Thanks for reading, subscribing, sharing, and supporting! I hope you all have a wonderful December, and I’ll see you all in January. ✌🏻
With appreciation,
Beth
