Let me start by saying I know winning an award is not the only confirmation of a person or work’s value. Without the effort that writers and artists put into making things, day in and day out, the world would be a dull, colorless place and the fact that books, paintings, songs, and other creative endeavors even exist remains an irreplaceably important part of the human experience and one I’m profoundly grateful for. (AI might change all that, but I digress.)
All that said, it’s really nice to be recognized and validated every once in a while, especially by a jury of your peers. In Prohibitchin’s case, the North American Guild of Beer Writers named it the Best Beer Blog for the second year in a row and frankly, it feels good. Really good. I’m knee deep in book promotions for The Beer Lover’s Guide to Cider, and I’m at least waist deep in a professional existential crisis. (See previous feature under “GABF Recap” for details.) So to take home first place for Prohibitchin’, a project that has meant so much to me for several years is, well… a really phenomenal feeling. Thank you all who read, comment, nominate, subscribe, and share this monthly series. Your support means everything to me.
Huge shoutout to the other winners in the category (who you should all read as well): Jeff Alworth for Beervana, David Jesudason for Episodes of my Pub Life, Will Hawkes for London Beer City, and Emerging Voice Shana Solarte. You can also view all of the winners in every category here.
Other news!
More book stuff coming up! See where I’m headed over the next few months on my Events page (La Jolla, Oakland, Encinitas, Portland, etc.) and follow me on Instagram for information on some upcoming virtual events (the Chicago Brewseum’s Beer Culture Summit for a solo talk and a panel, a virtual Q&A with The Open Bottle, etc.) Also, check out my (small but adorable) online shop to order a very cute tote and/or a signed copy of my book. (Please?)
Be sure to check out…
Friend-of-Prohibitchin’ and Hugging the Bar writer Courtney Iseman just launched her Beer Tarot zine through Bean to Barstool (who recently had me on the podcast to talk about—you guessed it—my book). I ordered my copy of the zine this week and cannot wait to flip through what is sure to be one of the most creative and interesting takes on craft beer today (and Lord knows finding something interesting to talk about in beer right now is a challenge!) It’s only $10 (plus $1 for shipping), so get your copy and feel good about supporting indie writers do cool stuff.
Last, but not least…
Longtime Prohibitchin’ sponsor Rev Nat’s Hard Cider closed up shop in September, but Chicago-based beer brand brand strategy and design firm Stout Collective has graciously agreed to underwrite the newsletter through the end of the year. (Huge thanks for stepping up!) If you or someone you know is interested in discussing a long-term sponsor partnership with Prohibitchin’, please let me know! Let’s keep this award-winning newsletter free for readers. :)
Until next month—thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
